Our role in the community
The team operates as a voluntary rescue team under the guidelines of Mountain Rescue (England and Wales) and under the control of the West Yorkshire Police. We are trained to respond to incidents involving the search and rescue of people on and around the South Pennine moors, and we also can assist with searches for missing people in urban areas. Our services are available 24hrs a day, 365 days a year.
The team is skilled in the rescue and evacuation of casualties, often on behalf of the Ambulance Service.
We provide a high level of medical and first aid assistance as well as skills such as rope rescue work on crags
and steep ground. We work with the other civilian emergency services as well as the RAF Helicopter Search and Rescue
Squadron. Within the team we have currently three search dogs in various
stages of training and operational readiness.
We have been called upon to assist in searches and rescues for those involved in outdoor activities such as hillwalking as well as vulnerable people reported missing from home. In addition we are often on standby during flood alerts. Stand-by cover is often provided for outdoor events such as local fell races.
