National Volunteers Week 2019
This week is National Volunteers’ Week, a chance to celebrate and say thank you for the fantastic contributions millions of volunteers make every single day across the UK. The estimated annual value of volunteers helping UK charities is a massive £22.6bn!
Calder Valley Search & Rescue Team is an entirely volunteer organisation that wouldn’t exist without its’ volunteers. Whether they are operational team members, trainees, active supporters, dogsbodies or training casualties, they all give their time for free. This allows us to support the emergency services and provide a life-saving emergency response to the community.
By volunteering, or supporting friends and family who are volunteers, you make it possible for organisations like us, to make a real difference within the community.
So far this year our volunteers have; responded to 22 incidents to rescue those injured or search for vulnerable missing people; attended 83 events to increase awareness of the team, maintain our equipment, building and vehicles for example; and run 75 training exercises to maintain essential skills such as casualty care or swift water rescue. A total of 6,389 volunteer hours (266 days) so far in 2019.
A huge thanks to all the amazing Mountain Rescue England and Wales volunteers, including those at CVSRT, and our volunteer colleagues in other rescue agencies who are on call 24/7, whatever the weather to rescue those who need help all over the UK.
