Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team (CVSRT), is a registered charity providing an essential, life-saving emergency service to the people of the Calder Valley and beyond.

The Team attends an average of 65+ callouts each year and is staffed entirely by over 50 unpaid volunteers. It costs around £35,000 a year to keep the team operational, all of which is raised through donations - we receive no direct government funding.

What we do

CVSRT operates within Mountain Rescue (England & Wales) guidelines, and is part of the Mid-Pennine Search & Rescue region, supporting the statutory emergency services, working on behalf of West Yorkshire Police.

Search and rescue capabilities include:

  • Search and Rescue Planning & Management
  • Specialist Medical Treatment
  • Technical Steep Ground and Crag Rescue
  • Night and Adverse Weather Search & Rescue
  • Body Recovery
  • Swiftwater / Flood Rescue
  • Stretcher Evacuation
Where we cover

Basically speaking, we cover West Yorkshire to the north of the M62 /M621. We cover the Airedale & North Bradford, Bradford South & North West Leeds police divisions. We work closely with the Police and Ambulance Service to locate, treat and recover lost or injured people from the South Pennine moors around Calderdale, Keighley, Baildon and Ilkley.

In recent years we have increasingly been called upon to conduct searches for vulnerable missing people in urban areas of Leeds, Bradford, Halifax and Keighley.

We also respond to requests for assistance from other teams and over the past few years have helped out with emergencies in South Yorkshire, Peak District, Lake District, North Wales and Ireland.

Who we assist

CVSRT operates under the control of West Yorkshire Police. We respond to requests for assistance from all the statutory emergency service. Our specialist skills and local knowledge provides an essential, life-saving asset to the other services, therefore the team works very closely with:

  • West Yorkshire Police (WYP)
  • Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS)
  • Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA)
  • YAS Hazardous Area Response Team (HART)
  • West Yorkshire Fire Service (WYFS)
  • National Police Air Service (NPAS)
  • HM Coastguard Search & Rescue Helicopter (Sikorsky S92a)
Where to find us

In 1994, CVSRT moved into their purpose built base in Mytholmroyd, affectionately know as The Rescue Post (RP90). The team base incorporates garaging for our incident control vehicle; Calder Mobile 4 – Vauxhall Movano and one of our emergency response vehicles; Calder Mobile 1 “Sarah” – Ford Ranger Double Cab.

As well as housing our office facilities, lecture room for holding training sessions and business meetings, we also conduct all our vehicle and emergency equipment maintenance.
